SOIL AND GROUNDWATER REMEDIATION/RISK ASSESSMENT
AEI personnel have designed, constructed and monitored remediation systems for a variety of contaminants (hydrocarbons, DNAPLs, LNAPLs, PAHs, salinity, metals, pesticides) impacting both soil and groundwater. Remediation services range from conducting full-scale site clean-ups to implementing risk assessment/risk management programs. Often, site remediation will consist of a com-bination of remedial approaches such as a containment system combined with a monitoring program. AEI’s reme-diation recommendations are site specific and are based on: soil and groundwater depths, soil type, ground-water flow direction, mobility of contaminants, location and sensitivity of receptors, off-site migration, current and future site use, surrounding land use, applicable clean-up criteria, and budget and timing constraints.
Listed below are some of the tasks AEI could undertake for a contaminated site:
• Create a site-specific risk assessment/risk management program.
• Install a containment system to minimize contaminant migration.
• Design and install multi-component in-situ remediation systems which might include: vapor extraction, in situ bioremediation, chemical amendment augmentation, air sparging of groundwater, and/or pumping, treatment, and discharge of groundwater.
• Design and execute a multi-component ex-situ remediation program that might include: soil excavation, landfarming, landfill-ing, biocell treatment, composting, soil washing, and/or chemical amendment treatment.
